Issue with Monitor Plugged into MacBook Pro

Hello, sometimes when I boot my 15" MacBook Pro w/ Retina Display this happens:

It freezes like this, and I am forced to restart! Please help!

MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I would uninstall Avast first and see if that helps things. If not, it could be a screen or GPU problem. If so, I would take the machine to your local Apple Store or an AASP and have them run diagnostic tests since you're still under warranty.

Thank you for the reply, but this happens when various programs are open, this happened before I even had avast

Is that your built-in display or an external display? Hard to judge from the screenshot... if your built-in display, take it back to your local Apple Store or an AASP. If an external display, you still may be having GPU problems (or problems with the display itself).

It's an external display, and this has never happened on my MacBook Pro alone
