You may need to set Mail/Preferences/Accounts to delete message from server.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your suggestion. But when I go to Preferences, accounts, advanced this option is NOT shown?

It shows a check box in light grey and says. "Compact mailboxes automatically." How do I change this?

When I look at my, iCloud account, the "Compact mailboxes automatically" is also greyed out.

What type of email account are you having trouble with? Is it a POP or IMAP account?

If it is Gmail, you have to set remove from server on the web site, which I think is gmail.com
