every time I save an image my mac changes the sizing, why?

I need help. For my job I need to find images and save them in the file size I find. Every time I do this my mac changes the size of the image. For eg. I find an image that is 325x315 and then simply click "save as". I then go back into the image and it is now changed to 220x220? why is this. i am very frustrated as the last few hours of finding images I needed for work is now wasted as every one is now the smaller size when we need it to be the large size hence me looking for them. I even found some images that were 500x500 and now are resize to 220x220?

Mac Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Can you provide a specific url so that we can test this out?

Whenever I downlaod an image of a given size, it always downloads that size...

Here one is. This has to be some setting on my computer as it is the full size image is 315x315 but once it is on my computer it is 220x220?

Highlight the image and open the info pane. Command-i

What does it say the size is there.

I certainly get the 315 x 315 in both instances when downloaded.

This is where my frustration is, in the info panel this is what is stated.

Dimensions: 225x225????????????

What am I doing wrong or where on my computer would this have change the sizing?

I just tried your link and I got the image on my desktop in the exact original size. I used the Control key > click on image > in the popup, use save image as option. This is on Firefox.

So the link you provided - the image size is 315 x 315

You download and get 220 x 220 on the desktop

You open the Info pane and it reads 225 x 225

This is starting to get fun now !

I just tried the link also - opened in Photoshop and it's exactly 315x315 px. What are you using to open the files?

Same approach that I used - control key in Firefox - and it opened as 315 x 315 px in Photoshop...

Ok this has to be my or my computer as I did exactly what babowa did on firefox, a little excited that it might work as I was doing this on Safari but again it has changed the image to 225x225. Maybe I do need a pc for work as muchas I hate to do that.

I would open a guest account and see if it is the same or sorts itself.

If it sorts, reboot intoSafeBoot Mode and try your download again. If it works here, you have a third party app interfering. Delete the problem app?

Best course of action I can think of isRecovery mode, and reinstall the OS

I have open this in preview and emailed it to my husbands pc and it is always 225? Is there anywhere on the mac where you can set a size to save images as?

When you save the pic, it automatically saves as the size you downloaded it as.

What do you have Mail attachments' size set at? When you attach a pic, you have a choice of sending it original size, medium, or small I believe - have you checked that? Especially if it is only evident when he receives it.
