That is because it is an ATT locked iPhone. Do you have a SSN? ATT will only offer service to those that have a SSN in the US, which usually means citizens and permantent residents.

I have no information the seller does not give me loquiere there another way to activate my iphone 5?

  • FelipeV Level 5 Level 5 (5,600 points)

No. If you live outside the US you cannot open an ATTa account and you cannot activate. You bought the wrong phone. Ask the seller for a refund.

My brother upgrade his phone to and iphone 5, (he had to sign a 18 months contract, so he could buy it for only $199.00) but he asked the seller not to activate the iphone 5 (he gave him the phone in the box sealed) and he gave him another phone (very low price one) with the number of the phone he upgrade. then he pay for the unlock service from a third party, and then he open the box and connected to the itunes, and he  got the "congratulation your iphone has been unlocked".

I live outside the US and he is planning to give the iphone 5, so I can use it with another carrier.

FYI: I check the imei and it is not activate, but I the "sim lock status" is unlocked.   I hope I would be able used it outside the us even if is not activated.

There is no such thing as a legitimate 3rd party unlock. ONLY the carrier the phone is locked to can authorize unlocking it.

My brother and I are not experts, so maybe you are right, maybe he paid for a carrier unlock, but the guy he paid for the service was not at&t.

Here is my status, before the unlock service, it says "locked by at&t", now it says UNLOCKED, the only thing is the activation status, which I am hoping I would have no problem because I will use it, with a carrier who is not any of the usa carriers. (fingers crossed)

You used a 3rd party unlocking service. Such services are illegal. They typically use an insider at a carrier to illegally enter serial numbers into the database maintained by Apple of unlocked phones.

Sooner or later, they will be found out, and there is a good chance the phone will be re-locked.

hope that never happen, if it happen I will have to give it back to my brother, and he will use it with the att sim card.

in which page so I can check my phone like that? what page I can see if my phone has a contract with AT & T?

  • KiltedTim Level 8 Level 8 (42,525 points)

There is no web site that can tell you whether your phone is under contract with AT&T. Return the phone and get your money back. Buy one from an authorized source instead of Amazon.

  • OLGA GUILLEN Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

I have no way to return it, I am from Venezuela and possibly cheated me, well I see no way to activate it ..

  • KiltedTim Level 8 Level 8 (42,525 points)

You can try submitting an unlock request to AT&T (start here: https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/client/en_US/termsAndCondition )

But I'm guessing the phone was either stolen or reported lost. If you bought it through Amazon, they should have some kind of arbitration process. Report the problem to them.

    Olga:
