Hi,

Most of what I experienced as similar issues on 3rd and 4th iPod Gen was related to a lack of memory. These devices only got 256Mo of RAM while only the 5th Gen get the 512 as the iPhones. If you are running multiples high memory usage apps, it may explains your issues.

Usually, closing all open apps from your start bar and restarting your iPod should improve a little. If you want to do a test to know if what you are experiencing is related to lack of memory, your content being somehow corrupt or the device itself, try restoring your device to its factory setting and look if it work fine.

Most apps that were crasing on my previous 4th gen iPod was games that was requiring a lot of RAM. It seems that they are designed to take advantage of most today's iPhones hardware and kind of leaving the poor old iPod behind. They all work fine on the 5th gen and I experience good responsiveness.
