recover files from .Inprogress file

I ran a back up with time machine before sending my macbook for repair. After recieving my newly installed mac software on my macbook, I tried to recover my previous backup files and install it on my macbook. However, I could not recover the file and I can see a folder which was .inprogress. I then clicked 'show package contents' and went through each of the files to look for my aperture library. When I managed to find it, the file size of the library was 42.31 GB and I proceeded to copy the library to my desktop. After copying, the library file size shrinked to just 1.02 GB. when I opened the library in aperture, the pictures were all blank. Is there a proper way to recover the aperture library as I have alot of photos stored in there and I hope not to lose it all.

Thanks.

Might need the mæstro on this one.

Any file with a dot in front should be invisible in Finder.

.Inprogress looks like a temporary file storing content being backed-up while TM compares it with the current dataset.

Which means (if true) the backup wasn't complete when you disconnected.

I can't contact Pondini directly to look at this, but maybe one of the higher ranked contributors can give him the "heads up".

would be incredibly grateful for an answer to this...

i did a back up in november before i went away for two months. along the way my internal HD started failing, and in the melee of trying to grab files before it went down, i plugged in the ext HD with time machine on it. the backup failed doing this, and now the entire backup is a .inprogress file, and i can't seem to transfer the files in any way. i also don't want to delete the .inprogress file because i assume it will delete the entirety of the 500GB contents :/

to compound this, the backup is also case sensitive whereas my new internal one isn't... what to do what to do??!
