I can't hear notifications through my Bluetooth if I have my silent switch on on my iPhone 4S.

If I have my iPhone 4S in silent mode, I can't hear messages or mail notifications through my Bluetooth. Is there a setting for this?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.0.1
