Has anyone else experienced this? I'm running OS 10.2.8 and Quicktime 6.5.3 Everytime I go to apple.com, the front page loads up, but the large quicktime file in the middle of the page just gives me a broken link. Once in a while an error message pops up after the page loads that says something like "quicktime is missing something necessary to run this file, and could not find it on the quicktime server for download."
Anyone know how to fix this? Is it a problem with apple.com or with quicktime?
The problem is your older OS (can't install QuickTime 7).
Most of the QuickTime files at Apples pages are now encoded using the new H.264 video codec which require version 7. The "missing components" message checks your installed version of QuickTime (and your OS version) to compare. Since your OS can't install version 7 (the only version that supports H.264) you get the message that the needed components are unavailable.
wow so there is really no way around this then.. apple has alienated any customers with older OS's. That's too bad because the apple site was a mainstay in my bookmarks, and I will have to move on.
