My brand new macbook battery won't charge.

I just bought a new battery and now it won't charge. I only installed it last night and it has one cycle on it. I don't have any color showing on my cord. Is there any way to be sure its the cord before I buy a new one? I don't have an extra to test it and I live 2 hours from the closest store! Any help would be great!
