There are quite a few threads out there on this topic but none with any suitable response. Has anyone figured out a terminal command that might force this, sort of like we do for forcing font size? Its frustrating to have to keep going to view and selecting "Expand All Conversations" manually evertime you switch views.

Although I have not been able to force the behavior, I did get some 'relief' by creating a App Shortcut in "System Preferences"->"Keyboard"->"Shortcuts" for "Expand All Conversations" that makes getting the behavior easier for me than mousing around the menus.

That checkbox is checked, I have to go to View/Expand All Conversations about 20-30 times a day to expand all messages because it continues to collapse whenever I "switch views" meaning, going from one folder, to a keyword search, to a smart folder, etc. It would be great to have some command line "defaults...xxxxx" that sets the "Expand All Conversations" default to on rather than persistent off - even if selected from the menu.
It would appear that I'm not the only one frustrated by this, many others seem to have the same thoughts so I'm hoping that someone in this community have figured out that simply setting a command line in Terminal sets the default to on with a bit flip.

You can quickly expand any mail conversation by selecting it in your inbox and pressing the right arrow key.
If you are already in conversation mode, the R arrow will drop down in the center column.
Unfortunately I know of no default terminal command to control the behavior you are looking for.
Apple doesn’t routinely monitor the discussions. These are mostly user to user discussions.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

I made a shortcut to Expand All using CNTRL-RT ARROW, but for some reason it doesn't work.
Seems to work fine using OPTION-RT ARROW, though. Ok. Whatever.
I used "command ` (the ~ key)". works ok. setup a new shortcut...
System Prefs > Keyboard > App Shortcuts > + new > select mail > type in "Expand All Conversations" > set your key.
I agree with all, last few years more and more bugs, Mail has been left to rot....

I agree, i have the same problem and it's a bad design. Apple, Please FIX this. And, when i try to submit some feedback I can't even find the mail product as an option. what am i missing?

Yes, this is killing me, too.
I used cmd § and it's perfect
I made a change to this concept and its working out great.
I used Command + M to give me More (expand)
I used Command + L to give me Less (collapse)
