First I couldn't get itunes deleted from hard drive when it refused to update, finally got it off my hard drive and all related programs now it won't install after trying to download/install from the apple site

I can't install itunes at all on my 64-bit Vista laptop. I have had it before but haven't been able to update and was advised to uninstall. I tried that but couldn't...tried for months and microsoft fix-it was able to get itunes off my hard drive, but now I can't get it to install. Sometimes I get error messages, but mostly it just goes into cyber land somewhere and it acts like "what"...you never tried to do that. I can find the setup .tmp file and try to install from there and no luck. I give up
