My iPod Touch HOME Screen will not respond

I have a brand new REFURBISHED iPod touch 4th Generation. After a month of usage, one day, after school, I open it and it works perfectly, I can swipe to open, I can do my passcode and get in, but then at the home screen, I cannot open a app, turn to the next page or do anything else. By then I think that my touchscreen died, but nooo, instead when I double click to homescreen to access multitasking, I can still hold down on apps to close it, and I can type perfectly on the spotlight search. Now I'm really upset. Everything EXCEPT the homescreen doesn't work, apps work (if you assess them through multitasking) and I dont want to reset my iPod and lose my content. Anybody have the same problem? Thanks!

I have not seen that problem before in this forum.

Try:

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at

least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

- Unsync all music and resync

- Reset all settings

Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

- Restore from backup. See:

iOS: How to back up

- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
