No. Each person needs their own ID for iMessage and FaceTime on their devices to avoid getting each other's messages and FaceTime calls. If you're share one now, one of you needs to go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and to Settings>Facetime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your own ID.

Note: you can continue to share the same ID for purchasing from the iTunes & App Stores; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for other services such as FaceTime and iMessage.

Thank u for that.

Your going thk I'm so dumb lol but just want to make sure I'm doing it all right.

So I need to make sure on my phone I have my ID sign in for iMessage and FaceTime and the same with boyfriends phone?

With the iPad I need to sign up for a new email address to get a apple ID?(as it says it needs new email)

When I have done all that I should b all good right?

I bet this is a silly question but for every devices is iCloud different?

If so how do I find the name of each?

Sorry for sound really silly/dump!!!!!!!!!!

You aren't asking dumb questions....

Here's the deal. Each person should be using a separate IDs for iMessage and FaceTime on all of the devices they own. If, for example, you own and iPad and an iPhone and your boyfriend has an iPhone, you would use your ID on your iPad and your phone, and your boyfriend would use a different ID on his phone. This keeps each person's iMessages and FaceTime calls separated, and allows each person to get them on all the devices they own.

You do need to provide a different email address for each Apple ID. This allows Apple to contact your if there is ever a problem with your account (such as needing to reset your password). If you don't have one, just get a free gmail account. In order to activate the ID, Apple will send you a verification email to the address you give them. You will have to click the Verify Now link on this email in order to validate the ID.

If you are already sharing the same ID on both your phones, when you get your new ID, on your phone go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your new ID. Do the same thing in Settings>FaceTime. Then just set up iMessage and FaceTime on your iPad with your new ID and you're good to go.

Reply back if you still have questions on this. (I know it can get complicated.)

Hey thanks for ur understanding randers4, both of our phones are on our own ID for FaceTime and iMessage.

The iPad is both of ours, so what is the best thing to do there?

We both going to FaceTime and iMessage friends and family, where I thk it's best it we have one account for it saving us signing in and out all the time and we will not miss call or something lol

Yes apple is very complicated at times haha :)

Create a separate ID for the iPad if you don't want it to receive either of your individual FaceTime calls or iMessages. People will then contact your on your iPad at the email address you use for your ID. (You can only use a phone number if you are using an ID associated with an iPhone.) Let them know to put this email address in their contacts for you so when your messages and FaceTime calls come through it will be identified with your name (and they'll know it's from you.)
