Hi r,

i select 1 cell

How many clicks? 1 or 2?

slide right to select 3 cells

is the slide (drag) moving Cell 1?

Are you dragging the white circle (Fill handle)? Don't!

Try Shift Click.

Click once in Cell 1.

Move the cursor (don't drag) to Cell 3. Hold down the Shift key and click once in Cell 3

All 3 cells now selected.

I hope this helps for now.

"Slide" sounds like an iOS related action, and the issue sounds like what I've often referred to wrt striking multiple keys when I wanted only one, as "fat-finger syndrome."

I suspect the OP isn't "sliding" in a purely horizontal direction, but has a slight up or down component causing the selection to include more than a single row. Happens to me when using a touchpad.

Hi rr,

I've copied your second post into your first post to keep the thread intact.

Thanks to previous replys but they don't seem to be solving my problem. probably because Im not describing my problem correctly.

I dont want to remove the data in the cells mentioned..

E.G I want to select G1,H1,I3 cells. When I try to select them, in anyway ive tried, as i select H1 it auto selects a block of cells B123 to I123 inclusive. I been playing whith this sheet for ages & think I may have formatted those cells in some way. I need to unformat that group so as i can select only the 3 I want. Any suggestion now that i've explained it that way? Thanks in anticipation.

I meant to mention I'm on Desktop Mac, OS X Version 10.7.5, Numbers '09 Version 2.3(554).

Hi again,

I see what you mean.

I'll have a think about it.

Similar to Ian's suggestion, but not quite identical:

User uploaded file

Click on any one of the three cells, then press and hold the command key as you click on the other two.

The blue line around the selected cells is the selection rectangle. The yellow fill was applied to the selected cells after they were selected.

I got different results using Ian's suggestion above. Here's a description of how the modifier keys affect a selection:

command-click: Adds the clicked on cell to the selection it it was not selected; removes it from the selection if it was selected.

shift-click: Expands or reduces the selection to the rectangular range defined by the cell initially selected at one corner and the clicked on cell at the opposite corner. All cells in the range are selected.

option-click: Adding the option key to a click, or to any of the combinations above appears to have no effect.

I though I had observed a different effect initially (Option-click, with or without command, seemed to select or deselect the table as an object, but I think that was caused by where I was clicking, rather than how.)

Barry
