Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, Quicktime recordings are too large

How can I video record using Quicktime and not get HUGE file sizes? I upgraded to Mountain Lion and Quicktime 10.2 file sizes are 8-10 times larger than what I used to get with previous Quicktime recordings. I can't find any way to change settings on Quicktime.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)
