Hi,
I cannot send or receive any message from my iPad. After selecting a contact from my contact list to be inserted in the SEND TO field, the contact selected turns into red with an exclamation mark. Any idea to fix this? I checked in SETTINGS > MESSAGE and the option SEND ASCSMS is missing.
Wi-fi is set correctly, I can surf the Internet and send/receive emails.

Make sure your contact enable iMessage in his/her iPad.
IMessage is enabled. From my iPhone, everything work fine and I can send/receive SMS to/from any phone.
iPad do not have Send as SMS since it not a phone.
iMessage is for sending messages to other iOS devices.
I checked settings in the two devices and the only difference I noticed is the option SEND AS SMS is missing
IMessage is enabled but seems not to work either
Who are you trying to send iMessage?
Does the recipient also has Apple iMessage configured?
Does the recipient has an iPhone ?
You can use phone number or e-mail address to iMessage an iPhone.
I can confirm the Ipad Mini with iOS 6.1 can NOT send or receive SMS text messages - even when it has 3G cellular hardware and a nanosim card with a cellular number.
The nanosim card is ONLY used to create a internet connection over a cellular network.
And it goes further:
The absence of SMS text messaging cripples the use of prepaid 3G internet in most countries since prepaid balance is controlled by SMS text messaging.
