The battery charge icon on my iPhone 3 shows empty
The battery charge icon on my iPhone 3 shows empty, when charging it remains on red, even over night. However, the phone still works! Is this a software issue or something more serious?

Reset your phone:
Press the Sleep/Wake button & Home button at the same time, keep pressing until you see the Apple logo, then release.
If no change, restore from backup. Follow this by syncing your content back to your phone.
If no change, restore as a new device, not from backup.
If no change, most likely a hardware issue.
