I have a Macbook early 2008 version with Snow Leopard. It has started to behave very strange. By other means I have checked the HDD and the RAM and both seem fine. I would like to run a HW test, but it seems that AHT on the original leopard discs doesn´t support the Snow Leopard. What could be the matter?

Yes. The message reads something like "hardware test is not compatible with ..." I apologize for the lack of precision, but in the hours passed since my question the macbook has become even worse. It will not even start any more. So I´m afraid I´m looking into a complete shutdown.

Then either you misidentified the discs, or you applied a firmware update that renders the discs useless. I've heard the latter can sometimes happen, but not frequently. What is the strange behavior?
Today the Macbook starts up very slowly. It halts for several minutes at the Apple logo while the spinning wheel circulates slowly, then jumps to the blue/grey screen and stays there.
Yesterday morning it managed to actually finish the startup and show finder, but everything ran extremely slow.
This doesn´t look like any SW error I have ever seen, so I think I have to hand it in for service :-)
How much spare HD space do you have available? (look at the bottom of a Finder window)
There is 15Gb available.
That's marginal. I wouldn't expect too many problems until below 10GB, but it does depend what applications you're running and how much RAM you have.
Check Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor > System Memory and tell us the page in and page out figures, please.

I´m sorry but as I can´t even get the MB started properly right now, I´m not able to check that. But thanks for the suggestion.
If your hard disk is bigger than 100 GB, you have too little space to work with. You must keep your hard disk at least 15% free to avoid issues with it.
