Where's iDVD?

Hi Everybody

Did I miss something or is iDVD no longer pre-installed free of charge on a Macbook pro? I'm on Lion and busy working on some films for a school project. I need to send the final film (after iMovie) to a DVD or whatever. I thought to use iDVD .... but it doesn't seem to be present, on this computer anyway! Does it no longer come as a pre-installed package?

If not, has anyone any good suggestions on how I convert the iMovie file into something that I can use on any computer, or burn onto a DVD if needed. Actually one of the uses was to be able to use it in a power point presentation maybe.

iDVD and iWeb were dropped by Apply before Lion was released. It is no longer supported or offerd by Apple.

If your computer came with Lion or Mt Lion preinstalled then you'll need to get iDVD from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com or eBay.com. Your best bet is to obtain a copy of the iLife 09 disk as it includes all of the themes from iDVD 1 thru iDVD 7. Getting iLife 11 makes it difficult to obtain the earlier iDVD 1-4 themes.

The only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:

You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.

Thanks Old Toad, I kind of guessed that was the case.

I'm busy looking around at other programs that I can use to build (and covert) DVDs if I wish. I find that Apple's attitude to 'Apps' is a little odd nowadays. They seem to be changing their policy which originally meant giving (or supplying) the app in a bundle on your computer/DVD installer etc in the good old days. This was a good idea, and part of the Mac/Apple policy, it also helped justified the extra cost of their computers. But, since they now seem to be heading in the same old comercial direction as everybody else why use their apps, after all there are plenty of better and cheaper apps out there for most uses!

Because here just are no other video DVD authorting applications out there that can hold a candle to iDVD as far as simplicity of use, flexability and professional looking final products. I've tried a couple and they are not woth the effort. There are numerous posts on how inadequate the iDVD replacements apps are.

Well I guess that's a good argument, I must say I'm not a specialist on this area of computers. However, I already figuered out an extremely easy - and free - way to convert my iMovie videos to a useable format, I'll figure out the DVD problem shortly as it's actually quite simple once you've got the right formats edited and ready.

But as you say:

I guess it's the best soltion for those that are not interested in understanding computers. I also find that sometimes click and do programs are very time saving. But I should also add that many solutions are just a short head scratch away, and it's fun to try.
