How do I unlock my Ipod?

My iPod screen will not unlock itself. I've entered my password in and have been locked out for over 4 hours today. I've attempted to find some sort of unlocking mechanisum on iTunes but they all require the password to be added. I am unable to access anything on my iPod and I really hope to find a solution as to how to unlock the screen without the unknown password. My ipod is in iTouch 3rd generation, if that helps at all.
