iPhone battery stuck at 1% doesn't get charged

My iPhone 5 has 1% of battery since 11 hours (standby 1 day, 21 hrs) however when I power in it doesn't get charged. I tried several times to charge it but it only makes charging noises without charging it. What is going on? The iphone is only 3 weeks old...
