Time Machine

Time machine's icon will disappear and there is no backup. If I disconnect the hard drive and reconnect, it will start working again.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities,

Let me see if I got this right. You are saying that you lose your TimeMachine icon and you discover that there is not back up? Is this right?

Or are you saying that when you disconnect your TimeMachine Drive the icon disappears and then when you reconnect the icon appears again and TimeMachine completes a back up of your machine. This last scenario sounds normal behaviour to me...

Can you expand on your explanation?
