computer not recognizing ipod

I have an ipod touch 4g 8gb. I recentley got a new computer and wanted to have my itunes library on the new computer instead of my old one. I was unsure of how to do that and while i was trying to figure it out something must have happend because now neither computer recognized my ipod. On my new computer ( Dell with windows 7) i have downloaded the newest version of itunes and it still does not recognize my ipod. Right now i would just like to get my new computer to recognize my ipod. I dont care if all my stuff is lost from the old one i just want it to work properly on the new one. Any suggestions?
