How can I update a 2nd ipad to ios 6 without losing all the apps?

My mom's computer with her itunes library is broken, but her ipad software desperately needs to be updated. I created a 2nd itunes library on my comp for her ipad and authorized it to her itunes acct. i know that updating to 6 will wipe all her apps and half her music that was synced to her old library. what can i do to keep her ipad as-is and just update the software, but from my computer?

You shouldn't lose any apps or files when you update, even using a different computer.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.

Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

I had a similar problem where my music was on my iPhone and I had a hard drive failure on my PC. I used a software programme called Senuti (i-Tunes spelt backwards) to move the music from myIphone to my new computer.

It was simple, worked 100% and is was free for the first 1000 songs and 30 days.

This would ensure you have a back-up on your computer which I think is what you really want to have.

Hope this helps

Cheers
