MacBook Pro will not turn on

Hello all,

About a week ago, I left my house and shut my MacBook like sometimes do when I am going out and when I came back, it had turned off and it hasn't turned back on since. If I try to turn it on, you hear it start, but then nothing else--no familiar Mac startup, totally black screen. The battery is fully charged. Any ideas on how I can try to troubleshoot and/or fix this or should I just straight to an Apple store? I am really stuck not having access to my computer. Argh!
