Just wondering since I'm having a lot of trouble with my mini display port to hdmi cable...

Unfortunately, it's not possible. However, if your TV has got other ports different to HDMI (like DVI, VGA...), you can buy an adapter to connect the Mac with the TV. Or you can buy an Apple TV and stream the Mac onto the Apple TV with AirPlay Mirroring > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
