why is itunes messing up?

Hi,

I've just now received this problem with my itunes. when trying to open itunes, an error prompt appears and, clicking on the option to report to apple, this is what is shown. any ideas? i have tried re-installing itunes from the web, but no luck. (i did not delete itunes before re-installing it, though, so maybe that's a fix?)

UPDATE:

i tried verifying and repairing permissions (through Onyx) and let it sit overnight. after booting the machine up, i notice most of my personal settings are reset. the background wallpaper photo (a personal pic) is still there, but items like tap-to-click on the trackpad had to be reset thru system prefs, and most alarming of all is that on the top right menu bar, the only icons that appear are for the applications dropbbox, f.lux, and box.net. the date and time, the battery charge level, the airport wifi indicator, ichat, etc., are not visible, nor is the searchlight feature. i attempted to make the date/time visible thru system preferences, but when i clicked the option i got the spining death wheel and then system prefs crashed. what's more, i see WAY more processes and applications running on activity monitor than i have before...
