Email reminder red dot not clearing

Email reminder red dot will not clear off my iPad and iPhone. Both show 2 emails when there are none. All email have been deleted on both devices. I can not make them go away. Ran the problem by my it tech guy who has helped many times with my email, etc. we do use exchange at the office and I receive and have the issue with my exchange email. My tech guy suggested deleting the exchange account and creating a new one. Any ideas.

iPad 2, iOS 6.0.2, Same on my iPhone 4S

The "I receive" part of this statement is confusing to me. You are having the issue with Exchange mail which is IMAP and deleting them on one device should delete them everywhere - correct? Are they still on the server in the Exchange account?
