I have a new iphone 5 and use a macbook with os 10.6.8 and itunes 11.0.1. When I connect with my usb to sync phone and computer, the calendar will not delete things or add things that I have on the computer or on the phone. I have all calendars marked and I've tried just checking other specific calendars and nothing is working. Is there a setting or something I might be missing??

Are you using iCloud for your Calendar? (Check Settings>iCloud)
No, it's turned off curently. But I have tried to turn it on and that didn't work either.
Turn iCloud Calendar OFF.
Plug your iPhone to iTunes and check the Info tab.

Yes under the info tab the sync calendars is checked and so is sync all calendars
What if there is no "Info" tab? When I connect my iPhone 5S, I see "Summary-Apps-Tones-Mucis-Movies-TV Shows-iTunesU-Books-Photos". I'm on Mavericks...?
There is no "Info" tab anymore. You have to sync through iCloud.
