I am interested in buying the current AppleTV, but there are a couple of things I need to know that a web search doesn't tell me.
Does AppleTV automatically sign out of PhotoStream after a certain period or will it stay logged in all the time?
Will PhotoStream automatically log out if a second user rents or buys something in the iTunes Store under their own Apple ID?
Or are the iTunes Store and PhotoStream sections seperate?

Photo stream is a seperate log in to iTunes.
You'll only be logged out of photo stream if you do it yourself or restore the Apple TV.

Also, is it possible to hide previous purchases on AppleTV?
Can you hide them in iTunes on a Mac and then those that take effect when you sync the two?
Yes, if you hide your purchases on your Mac, they are hidden under purchases on the Apple TV. However if they are downloaded to the Mac and reside in your library, someone can access the content through shared libraries.

No, they have to be hidden from your computer, but doing so hides them everywhere.
