Computer and Superdrive losing connection?

Im runing an mid 2012 macbook pro, on mountain lion.

The problem I am having is that everytime I try to burn a disc, a get an alert box popping up telling me that the disc could not be burned due to the computer and Superdrive losing connection.

The whole burning process gets to around 80% before this happens, regardless of the size of the file Im burning.

Just wanting a little help with this as I contacted Apple earlier but didnt really get any help. Thanks

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You need to take the system into an Apple Genius Bar. It sounds like the cable going to the superdrive is bad (That is if it is a standard MBP with built in superdrive).

Or you could save yourself a bunch of headaches with the superdrive and just buy an external DVD drive that connect to a USB port. They usually work better and last longer then the Not So Superdrive Apple uses.

I just thought that if it was hardware related the AHT would found it and also the fact that it seems to stop burning at the same point everytime.

This might sound like a silly question but does the speed of the discs make a difference. The maximum burn speed option my superdrive gives is x6, although the blank discs are duel layered x8?

The superdrive is one of the slowest DVD drive ever made. That 6x speed is more then likely the Top speed of the drive.

Are you using Dual Layer DVDs? And is the data you are burning go past the 4GB mark of single layer DVDs? The superdrive has problems with Dual Layer discs.

You will get responses like "Try a different brand DVD" and the like. Simple fact is the Apple superdrive Stinks. Always has and always will.
