I have a mid mac book pro 2009. Tha battery has been going for a while, but that has not been bothering me because I use energy intensive prgorams (Adobe Creative Suit), and if I don't keep it plugged in it over heats. Recently the charger has not been connecting as well. I am going to probably have to get a new charger, but should I get a new battery as well? The computer has been functioning fine expect for the charger not staying in. Any suggeestions?

OS X will tell you when you have to replace the battery. Also, to see battery information, open System Profiler (Snow Leopard) or System Information (Lion and Mountain Lion) > Power
I already know that I need to replace the battery to function when it isn't plugged in. It is well past the suggested cycle count. Will anything catosrphic happen if I keep using it though. It's charge is about 75 %.
