This has been driving me nuts for years

Has anyone else had this issue, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Going from Aperture to email is something I do often. Usually I use the "share" menu button and select "email". I do this after selecting a series of images I want to insert into my email.

For whatever reason, the images are never inserted in order. They always come out all over the place and not in the sequence I selected in the Aperture browser. This is problematic when you want to include many pictures, re ordering them in the email is a pain.

The other thing I can do to preserve the order of selection, is drag and drop images into Mac Mail. BUT THEY GET INSERTED WITH NO LINE BREAKS using this method. So your email looks like jigsaw puzzles. Breaking apart all your pictures and adding line breaks is as much fun as getting athlete's foot.

Also, drag and dropping is weird when you want to resize, the resize button never seems to work or acts strangely.

THE OTHER THING, why is there no option in Mac Mail itself to resize individual pictures easily. You can resize all the images not individually. Why not have the option when you select a picture in your email, to size it small, medium, large -- leaving the others the same size.

If I'm missing something here, let me known -- maybe, I'm not doing somthing right.

Any help, appreciated.

One for the Mail forum I would have thought.

I don't know about this belonging to the mail forum.

Aperture is doing the export and you would think that you would be able to export to email with the photo sequence you select from Aperture intact.

Obviously email sharing is integrated into Aperture -- pictures when they are shared on Facebook or Flickr via Aperture don't lose their order, why so when they go to email?

No, I didn't resolve this, glad someone else has this issue, that it's not me just being picky.

If Apple is listening, maybe they can find a way on the next Aperture update, that when images are selected from Aperuture and "shared" to "email" the order of selection is maintained and maybe even line breaks are automartically added between images.

It's easier having Aperture or Mac Mail do that, than having to break up images yourself, by inserting line breaks between them and re-ordering the pictures.

It's kind of like cut and pasting/exporting text. When you do that, you don't expect the lines or paragraphs to be re-ordered or all together with no breaks, right? So why does this happen with Aperture/Mac Mail, given they are both Apple products and should play nice together.

As a workaround, I tried this with iPhoto, using my usual Mail program on the iMac and the pictures are in the order that I wanted, separated by a blank space, and also include version names under each photo. If you still have iPhoto on your computer, try it and let me know if this helps you as much as it does me?

Thanks!

I don't want to fool with iPhoto, all my image editing work is with Aperture, dusting off iPhoto and using it -- well, it's easier just to re-order the images inside Mac mail.

But, the interesting thing here is, that iPhoto works properly when sharing to email while Aperture does not.

The way you describe iPhoto working is the way I thought email sharing should work with Aperture. So, it's an Aperture thing, but I'm surprised that Apple hasn't corrected this, or conformed the operation to the one in iPhoto yet.

Maybe you're right, they might go to those places out of order as well. I don't usually post a lot of pictures at a time, usually only a couple or so with Aperture. I use Picasa for huge image sets/collections and those seem to be in order.

The point is still, I guess, when you spend time carefully selecting a group of shots, those should go in the order you carefully selected, no matter if it's Facebook, Mac Mail, Flickr or your grandmother down the street from you!

One could probably excuse issues with Facebook/Flickr since those I/F depend on third parties. But I don't see a reason why the within Apple piece (Aperture->Mail) couldn't be made to work. Must not be high enough on the list of priorities. Have you sent feedback to Apple? It's probably the only way a mere mortal can have a slight influence on what Apple does next.

Honestly, and as much as I love Apple products, I have never, ever given feedback to Apple that actually resulted in anything happening to any potential bug or suggestion for doing something better. Hence, I find that feedback route to be grossly ineffective and time consuming. I wish that were not the case, but that has been my experience.

Sending photos via email in Picasa works fine, iPhoto works fine, Aperture does not...plain and simple.

Sorry, I don't post on these forums often, I think I clicked the "this solved" link by accident.

I wish the first link on an email from the discussion group was "click to go to this discussion" instead of all that other stuff that when in a hurry, you might wind up clicking.

With more time at the Apple forums, I wouldn't have made that mistake.

Sorry, if there's no way to change that tag.
