Tax on refurbished Macbook pro?

Trying to buy a refurbished macbook pro. I live in toronto canada, and the MBP cost 1529.00, does that price include tax or does tax still have to be applied?

Apple really should make it clear as to whether tax will be applied. I did see that tax is applied where applicable on the website somewhere. Although even after I typed in my postal code clicked the checkout button, the total was still 1529.00.

Apple's site always applies tax where necessary after you've selected an item. They can't know whether or not to apply tax until you supply a shipping address since not all locales charge sales tax.

In the U.S., it also has to do with presence. Say you live in a state that charges sales tax, but Apple has no physical presence in the state; i.e., no stores, offices, etc.. In such a case, they do not need to collect state sales tax (under current law). That leaves the burden on you to pay the sales tax owed as what is called use tax.

If the amount you paid was $1529 then they cannot add more to that afterwards

.

In Europe, the prices include the VAT, right? In the US, the sales tax is always added later - mostly because it varies from state to state (actually even city/county is different everywhere). For instance, when I order something, I am always asked if I'm within the city limits or outside city limits as the sales tax varies by several percentage points. Than again, some states have no sales tax.......

Well, it's ages since I bought anything in either country but I was simply looking at the OP's first post where he said that he clicked to pay after giving his postcode. It seemed to me that that would have been the point where the sale was concluded and the amount matched the figure he was quoted.

Here in the UK displayed prices do not always include VAT but one way or another the amount is made known either by the receipt stating VAT is included (the VAT being separately annotated) ... or the VAT is added to the selling price and both figures and a total is shown.

I think we shall have to wait to see if the OP clarifies the terms of purchase.
