I don't want all my contacts on my iPhone5 but I want my calendar sync-ed i.e. totally up-to-date. Is it possible to create settings for sync-ing?

The sync-ing program will warn me that it's about to make massive changes to my contacts on my iPhone i.e. add in a whole bunch of contacts that I don't want on my phone. At that point I can cancel the sync and stop those contacts from being added. But as a result, my calendar is not getting updated. Seems to me there should be a way of controlling what gets sync-ed and what doesn't. But so far I haven't been able to find a way to do that. Thoughts?

Incidentally, I have no idea if I'm in the right community...
