Macbook Pro Battery recall

It doesn't hurt to ask, right? My nephew purchased a macbook pro 15" about 2 years ago. Just under a year ago, his battery heated up, ballooned out, and damaged the computer. Thought the whole computer was gone. I just found out about this, and am trying to help him. Is there any hope that the recall is still available to him? what about apple checking it out the damage?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi punched, I completely feel your frustration with apple. They are over-priced and I too have purchased many of their products which were NOT so awesome, In fact I have purchased a couple of Lemons instead of Apple! (my Macbook Pro 15 inch which had a Graphic card Issue the 2nd year from purchase and I barely made the warranty period), later on a Battery Recall was issued on the same Crappy laptop model which I have missed the exchange deadline as my battery got swollen after the expiration because I rarely used the Mac after the graphic card Issue. I tried to exchange the battery but they were not helpful nor very accommodating in taking care of their loyal customer who has coughed up thousands of dollars on their JUNK products. My I-phone 5 was a piece of Junk which froze on me constantly. I have purchased Ipods, phones and laptops spending thousands, certainly expect them to honor the recall without expiration since IT WAS FAULTY TO BEGIN WITH and needs replaced regardless.

I am boycotting apple all together. 5 People in my household, None will ever receive another Apple product. If all Disappointed and unsatisfied Customers like myself boycott Apple and let the company know why they are boycotting them( LACK OF GOOD SERVICES and Failing to stand behind their Pricey Products), Maybe then they will change their policies for the better on the Recall subject. There should Not be a deadline on Recalls Period. When the part sold is deffective, You are Obligated to replace it and keep the customers returning.

There apparently was a battery recall, a KNOWN ISSUE with batteries swelling and causing computer damage. Apple Care told me there was a recall, but because of "company procedures," they can no longer exchange the bad batteries. I spent the better half of a day in the Apple Store and on the phone with Apple "Care" letting them know how disappointed I am with the "process" of letting customers know when there is a recall. The Apple Care supervisor told me there are no good means of communication on these recalls, that they are posted on the web site. I said really? Because Apple has no problem notifying me when there is a new product out, when my computer has been rendered useless because it's OS is out of date or when they've had a "record" quarter in sales and revenue. Over the years I have purchased one 17" Macbook pro - $2700, 2 IPads - $1400 (plus accessories), 5 IPhones - $1500 (plus accessories), updated software for the MB pro - another $80, for a grand total of $5680 and they can't bring themselves to exchange a battery when there was a KNOWN ISSUE. The battery won't even fit in my computer now and they want me to spend another $130 for a new battery - Good grief!!! What a bunch of BS bureaucracy.

SO, shldr2thewheel - NO, Apple won't repair the damage for free! The recall expired so there is NO FREE exchange for the POS battery that caused the damage, nor will the damage be repaired unless susilv paid for the extended warranty.
