There apparently was a battery recall, a KNOWN ISSUE with batteries swelling and causing computer damage. Apple Care told me there was a recall, but because of "company procedures," they can no longer exchange the bad batteries. I spent the better half of a day in the Apple Store and on the phone with Apple "Care" letting them know how disappointed I am with the "process" of letting customers know when there is a recall. The Apple Care supervisor told me there are no good means of communication on these recalls, that they are posted on the web site. I said really? Because Apple has no problem notifying me when there is a new product out, when my computer has been rendered useless because it's OS is out of date or when they've had a "record" quarter in sales and revenue. Over the years I have purchased one 17" Macbook pro - $2700, 2 IPads - $1400 (plus accessories), 5 IPhones - $1500 (plus accessories), updated software for the MB pro - another $80, for a grand total of $5680 and they can't bring themselves to exchange a battery when there was a KNOWN ISSUE. The battery won't even fit in my computer now and they want me to spend another $130 for a new battery - Good grief!!! What a bunch of BS bureaucracy.
SO, shldr2thewheel - NO, Apple won't repair the damage for free! The recall expired so there is NO FREE exchange for the POS battery that caused the damage, nor will the damage be repaired unless susilv paid for the extended warranty.
