I cannot access my USB drive even after I follow all of the above advice. Any suggestions?

When I use airport utility and I double click on the airport extreme base station, the preference pane opens up. At the top, where the disks icon is, I can choose that and I can see my USB drive in the list but that's it. I can't access it or open it to retrieve files. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks.

NTFS will not work with the AirPort Extreme, nor will a format of exFAT.

FAT32 should work...and works fine for me when I format a WD500GB drive as a test here. I cannot say why this is not working for you.

Normally, I use HFS+ also known as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) on hard drives here.
