why won't my facetime on my mac let me sign in?

My facetime on macbook air won't let me sign in. I keep trying, and I even tried to create a new user id. I have no idea why it won't work. It keeps telling me to check my network connection and try again later. Everything else on my computer is working. I updated everything, and even deleted the app and tried to redownload it.
