FaceTime says unavailable whenever I use it and I can't call other people
Facetime only works with Apple iOS and OS X devices that support it. Currently the only Apple Facetime enabled devices are:
iOS Devices
- iPhone 4 or later
- iPad 2 or later
- 4th Generation iPod Touch
OS X Devices (must support OS X Snow Leopard** or later)
- iMac with built-in iSight Camera
- MacBook with built-in iSight Camera
- MacBook Pro with built-in iSight Camera
- MacBook Air with built-in iSight Camera
- iMac with built-in FaceTime HD Camera
- MacBook with built-in FaceTime HD Camera
- MacBook Pro with built-in FaceTime HD Camera
- MacBook Air with built-in FaceTime HD Camera
**Snow Leopard computers must have FaceTime App installed. It can be purchased from the Mac App Store. OS X Lion and OS X Mountain Lion have the FaceTime App included in the operating system software at no additional cost.
You may see the FaceTime unavailable message due to the following reasons:
- Your iPhone is not connected to wifi network.
- Trying to communicate with a non-Apple phone with front facing camera.
- Not logged to FaceTime service with your Apple ID.
- Person with FaceTime enabled iOS or OS X device has not set up his FaceTime settings yet.
- Attempting to communicate with a non-FaceTime enabled device.
- FaceTime settings not properly set on your phone (You can check if this is the case by going to Settings> FaceTime).
I hope you find this information helpful. For more about FaceTime you can see this support article or see this webpage.
