I want to read my optical drive on my MBP from my MBA. I have done everything in this article, but still cannot see the optical drive. "Remote Disk" does not show in the Devices sidebar.
Any clues?

Is the checkbox for CDs, DVDs set in Finder Sidebar Prefs?
Does it show up in Go>Computer?

Ummm... what is Go>Computer? Never come across that one before.
Finder, Go Menu, Computer (cmd-shift-c).
Still nothing there.

Enable Remote Disc 1 [X]

Thatwas a lot of fun, but afterdoing it (and a reboot) I still cant see the DVD on the MBP.
I also installed Secrets on the MBP.

Not "Secrets". That trick was mostly to allow a non-Macbook Air the ability to see a remote DVD/CD drive. The Macbook Air should have then enabled by default, which is why I asked to have you check, as you do not see your dirve.
Be careful about changing "Secrets" settings, as I'm sure there are enough things there that you change enough, and funny thing will most likey happen 🙂
Remote Disc ASSUMES both Macs are on the same subnet. By any chance do you have one Mac connected to the broadband providers router and the other Mac connected via a separate WiFi base station. Unless the separate WiFi base station is explicitly setup to bridge ethernet to WiFi, it would be acting as another router creating an isolated subnet. That isolation would prevent the Macbook Air from seeing the DVD/CD drive in the Macbook Pro.
You could use Bonjour Browser to see if your Macbook Pro DVD/CD drive is visible from your Macbook Air

You want to look for:
_odisk._tcp. - 1
If you find it, then clicking on the triangles should revel your Macbook Pro and then IP addresses
If you do not find an _odisk._tcp. entry, then your Macbook Air is not seeing your Macbook Pro's exported DVD/CD drive.

Thanks for all this. Still can't see the MBP optical drive.
In summary:
1. Both computers are on a home wireless network.
2. Bonjour Browser does show _odisk._tcp. - 1 and my MBP is listed, which would imply that the Air is seeing the Pro.
3. Don't know if it is important but my _odisk._tcp. only shows 3 lines where the screenshot you sent has 4 lines. It would be the third line that is missing.
I'm starting to think it is something in the MBP which is preventing the Air from seeing the optical drive, although I have no idea where to look after all this. Firewall is off on both computers, DVD sharing is enbled in Sharing, all boxes ticked in Finder Preferences Sidebar.
The fact that Bonjour Borwser sees _odisk._tcp means you ARE on the same subnet, so there are no networking problem, and you do have disc sharing enabled on the Macbook Pro.
Did you put a CD or DVD into the Macbook Pro DVD/CD drive?
After that, I think I'm out of ideas. Maybe someone else has some ideas.
Yep, tried putting a disk in - still no luck.
Thanks for the effort, but is is somewhat comforting as I had already exhausted all ideas myself.
