5 Gen iPod and the Altec Lansing IM7 speaker system

I searched for threads about how some people's iPods were freezing in the Altec Lansing IM7 speaker system. I found some discussion but no answers.

I bought the IM7 today and am experiencing the freezing iPod problem. My 60GB video iPod was hooked up to the Apple Universal Dock for months and never crashed once, but I've had the IM7 for just a few hours now and have already experienced three freezes. Certainly it's not an iPod problem.

There have been thousands and thousands of IM7 units sold, so I would think someone somewhere has the answer. The sound is great and it's a sharp-looking unit, but it goes back to the store if I can't get the freezing problem resolved.

I've sent an email to Altec Lansing, and I'll call tech support tomorrow when they open, but I thought someone here might know what's going on.

Well, I didn't get any response here, but I thought I'd pass along what Altec Lansing said.

They said it may be a problem with the iPod, but that I could return the IM7 for an exchange because some IM7s have the freezing problem and some don't. How that's an iPod problem I don't know.

I guess corporations will never admit a mistake.

Just bought an IM7 and I get the freezing on my 40GB iPod everytime I use it for more then 5 minutes. Burned a line in my iPod screen (phosphorus) becuase it had stayed on the same song until the battery wore down. This is the only peripheral that is freezing the iPod so I know where to blame this problem..

I have seen others describing this problem that turned in the IM7 for a new one and it still froze the iPod. Sounds like a company that doesn't want to fix their product..

****** me off becuase it sounds great when it is working.

Have you tried updating the firmware on the iPod with the latest iPod updater (2006-03-23)? If not you can download it here, it may contain bug fixes to address this issue http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

I do experience the same problem. My mini is frozen or it charges for ever. How did you solve the problem ?

Hi,

I need to correct or describe my problem in more detail:

I have a first gen ipod mini
After using it in a im7 I experience problems with the battery
I have changed the battery
I updated the software
I can upload music from itunes to ipod
the ipod plays in the im7 but not on its own
the ipod is hung up or frozen under 'language - english'
