A small red circle with a number in it appears next to the face time icon on my ipad. How can it be removed?

Open the FaceTIme app, click "Recents" on the bottom, then "Missed" on the top. Review the missed calls, consider deleting the information. The review of the missed calls will remove the circle and number.
