The add is to add a new contact, you cannot add to FaceTime (on a contact app) since FaceTime uses Contacts app to connect.

The OP is using an iPod Touch and not an iPhone, assuming his signature is correct.

No, as you can add a contact within the FT application in the iPod and iPad ,which is a stand alone app on these devices, which is what the OP was wondering about.

Yes I know, you are still going through the Contacts app (blended in FaceTime side panel) where you have a + sign to add a contact.

Yep, but I think that's where he got all confused, which is due to the way FT is implemented on various devices that CAN be confusing.

In that case, the Contacts app has the same problem.

iCloud contacts On/Off should help.

Do a reset (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)

Note: You will not lose any data.
