Deleting Mail

I'm wondering when I delete an e-mail from my hotmail account, why it doesn't automatically delete from my mail on my macbook? Is there a way to change this? The only answers I can seem to find are in the reverse (as in, when I delete from my mail, why doesn't it auto delete from hotmail? my issue is the other way around !!) Thanks 🙂
