Migration from Old Mac to new

Hi guys. I have an old Mac PowerPC running on OS 10.5 I bought another Mac to replace it. It's an Intel based Mac, running on OS 10.7 Lion. I suppose the easiest way to transfer files from one mac to another is either through Time Machine or Migration Manager. The question I have is what happens to all the licenses (serial numbers) that I have in the old computer? Will they transfer or will I have to re-register all over again? Also, I assume some applications won't work on a new Intel and perhaps that means I'd have to get an upgrade. Has anyone migrated succesfully from two Mac, especially when the OS and hardware have been different? Much appreciated

Apple due core, Mac OS X (10.5)

I assume once I transferred it, it will tell me which ones won't work (I have an inckling) That means the best way to make sure I have everything up-to-date is to find out which one won't work and get the upgrade. You'd say that's about right?
