Cant connect with Home Sharing to use my new Apple TV!

I've just bought the APple TV to be able to see programmes on the TV that I am currently watching on the ipad. I When I try to turn on home Sharing it isnt accepting my password. I set up the Apple TV using the password and it seemed to accept it. First time trying to connect and not having much luck! Any suggestions?
