just downloaded 5.2 it won't pair with my keyboard

I just downloaded Apple TV 5.2. I went to Settings > General > Bluetooth. I turned on my Apple wireless keyboard and it will not pair. It is listed under devices on the screen and Apple TV just searches, but not pairing.

I'm having the same issue. I do notice that if I wait a few seconds and press the enter or return key, the pairing code pops up for about a half-second, then a failed-to-pair/restart-device message. I tried this several times with the same result. Unfortunately, the pairing code changes each time, so I can't just key-in the previous code before pressing enter or return.

My issue is exactly the same as UncleDave:

I have discovered the answer by going here and reading very carefully. Go here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5633

In the above support article it tells you to go to Settings > General > Bluetooth. The instructions tell you to select your keyboard from the list. I missed that.

When you go to Settings and press Select on the remote (large silver button), the General section is already selected. Press Select.

1. Select Bluetooth by pressing down on the black ring.

2. You will then see a new display showing Bluetooth Searching... and the "gear" is going around and around enclosed in the blue frame.

3. Click down to move the selection below "Devices". There is the name of your keyboard shown with "not paired" at the right end. When selected you should have a thin blue border around your keyboard name and "not paired"

4. Then the Bluetooth Pairing Request window appears with four numbers.

5. Type the numbers shown and the keyboard should be connected almost immediately.

You should then be connected. If I missed a step, reply and correct me.

OK. Here's what I've worked out. My older 2007 full size apple Bluetooth keyboard would not pair as described above by UncleDave, but my Logitech Bluetooth keyboard I bought in 2012 pairs fine. This would suggest that older Bluetooth keyboards may not be compatible with the new Apple TV iOS update.

While looking for information about the issue, I came accross a statement from Apple saying that older Apple Bluetooth keyboards will not pair with AppleTV. No specific models were mentioned, but I'm sure the one I was trying to set up would fall in that category. Amazon has some light-duty, light-weight BT keyboards for about $15-$20; I'm already using one with the Mac Mini that is also connected to my TV, so I expect to order another one to use with AppleTV. Once in a while I use it for short email replies, but it's mostly used to enter passwords, etc.

I have the same problem. First, the update took forever. then the Bluetooth keyboard simply won't pair. That 'searching' wheel keeps turning and turning but nothing happens.

I tried resetting/restarting Apple TV but nada, zip. The keyboard is a little over a year old, so it's compatible. It's not paired with anything else.

Very frustrating!

After many frustrating attempts to get the keyboard to pair I finally got it to work.

They keyboard was not paired with any device. I paired it to an ipad. Then I removed it from the iPad. This seems to make the keyboard forget that it was ever paired.

Then I was able to easily pair it to the Apple TV on the first try.

I had this problem too on an Apple aluminium bluetooth keyboardand and spent a long frustrating time on it before I cracked it.

If you have a Mac in the home. Select preferences and disconnect the keyboard. Shutdown the Mac and leave it off. I found this to be my problem, as the keyboard was conflicting with the Mac during the "pairing" phase.

1. Turn off the keyboard "hard' by pressing the on button for about 5 seconds. the light will first come on then go off.

2. Go to Settings on the Apple TV. Then selectn General, then select Bluetooth, Apple TV will start searching for a device.

3. Turn on the keyboard by pressing the on button briefly. The search will discover the keyboard immediately. Using the Apple TV remote, scroll down to the, "Keyboard found Not paired". Press select on the Apple TV and a 4 digit number will appear after pairing. Enter the number using the keyboard and press select on the Apple TV remote. The keyboard will be set for controlling the Apple TV.

If you still have a problem at the pairing stage, shut down any blue tooth product in the home and start again by switching of the key board hard for a few seconds and then press the on button.

Good luck.
