iOS 6.1 Battery Life

I upgraded to iOS 6.1 a few hours ago and I must say that my iPhone 5 (previously running iOS 6.0.2) is getting insane battery life. I have been using my iPhone for almost 45 minutes, standy for 2 hours and the iPhone is still at 100%. This is just crazy. I will continue to test tomorrow when at work and see what I get all day.

What is everyone else seiing?

when you restore in iTunes it first asks if you want to backup so select yes. You will have the option to restore the backup or not then. Otherwise yes your txt and pics will not be there However you can sync your stuff back with iTunes if you have your pics on the PC, contacts, etc. You can either restore the backup for just sync your stuff back.

You may want to try the options I posted on page 3 of this thread. Before you do a full on restore that process may take care of your issue. And is a fast easy process.

mine is iPhone 4 16GB, iOS 6.0.1. i didn't even install the ios 6.1 update ( only downloaded the update from the notification center), but i have been facing battery draining problem after the download. for example, after a full recharge, battery life lost almost 35% in a span of around 8 hours (in standby mode). it was not like that before the download of the update. if i use the phone for around 2/3 hours (browsing, light gaming etc.) battery almost goes down to 10%. i cannot even use the phone for a whole day. how can i solve this issue?

That makes no sense, but you're correct that you can't re-install 6.0.1.

I have 2 iphones 5 and still have 6.0.1 on one and 6.1 on the other. I think the performance of iOS 6.1 is far worse than 6.0.1. Examples are streaming a wi-fi video consumes 17% on 6.1 and 7% on 6.0.1. Leaving the phone unattended on my night stand has the 6.1 run empty after 4 days 22 hours, with usage of 15 hours 47 minutes. This compares to 6.0.1 which goes 7 days 18 hours, with usage of 4 hours 38 minutes. I have no idea what the 6.1 phone was doing for 15 hours when it was on the night stand, because I did not fire it up. Something seems to be churning all the time and eats up battery as a result. But, it's not the screen and it's not mail, because they are off.

It's probably worth staying with 6.0.1 if you can.

Wow interesting thread. Would just like to throw it out there that iOS 6.1 itself is not causing battery drain. Most users are reporting improvements. Pretty much every iOS update that comes out is flanked with reports about causing battery issues. There have been a few (iOS5 comes to mind) that introduced so many new items that they did effect battery. So it happens. However typically the issues come from the update process itself, or a hung app or open app when the update starts. iOS 6.1 itself is not the issue. Some common solutions that have high success rates are as follows:

1: close all apps from multitask tray,

2: perform settings>reset>reset all settings. This will not erase your apps or data but will default old settings to their new states for the new iOS.

3: Select "setup as new" if prompted when the device reboots. (it isnt really setting up as new so dont worry).

4: Allow to drain battery until the device turns itself off

5: Charge it back up undisturbed for at least 1.5 hrs after it shows 100% (overnight would be best)

If the above steps dont help try a restore from iTunes. Do not restore your backup. Sync apps and such back using iTunes or redownload. The backup may have corruption that will come back to the device.

If still has issues you can verify by restore again and not loading all apps again and see if the device performs correctly in factory state. If it does then you know the device is fine and there is some app causing your issue more. Hope this helps. There is hope! iOS 6.1 is being reported as being a very stable update with increased performance and battery life for most users.

Okay, I am thinking about trying this. Will doing Step 2 have any effect on text messages, pictures etc?

It seems like, if Apple is working on any issues and will offer another update, it might make sense just to restore my phone back to prior to updating to the latest software?

I know I will have that annoying reminder telling me to update, and I probably won't benefit from whatever things they added to 6.1, but if it would save my battery life, it's worth considering I think.
