iOS 6.1 Battery Life

I upgraded to iOS 6.1 a few hours ago and I must say that my iPhone 5 (previously running iOS 6.0.2) is getting insane battery life. I have been using my iPhone for almost 45 minutes, standy for 2 hours and the iPhone is still at 100%. This is just crazy. I will continue to test tomorrow when at work and see what I get all day.

What is everyone else seiing?

iPhone 5 i64 gb, was iOs 6.0.1, now 6.1.

Narrowed down my EXTREMELY high battery consumption to internet use when on LTE. in 5 minutes lost 20% battery. When on 3g, standby, or just regular not data usage, battery life is normal. Withe iOs 6.01 battery consumption on LTE was approx same as 3g for given "time" on internet, now withe 6.1, LTE is consuming battery at an alarming rate

My Email is POP, NO exchange.

Also noticed today that my 3G data is getting dropped even though I'm showing 4-5 bars signal. Will routinely hang when going to a web site or search, then error that cellular data connection can not be activated. Resetting Safari has no affect. Have to turn off phone and restart, then works for 5-10 minutes or so and loses again.

I have been battling the "OTHER" storage on my phone as well, currently at 4.8GB, now this too?

Going for a complete restore to new, (not form backup) hopefully issues resolved, if not will be trying to go back to 6.0.1til Apple pulls their head out and releases a stable iOs.

We have this battery problem x2!! My wife and I both now have terrible battery life on our iPhone5's since iOS6.1. Don't they test this stuff before releasing it? Between the comments I see on here, news releases and face-book it seems this is a huge problem affecting nearly everyone. Apple, please comment!! Don't just ignore us, this is a big deal!! When can we expect a fix? I do not have time for this or any more iPhone 5 problems...!

I have reset and restored my phone twice and my wife's once, both are still loosing battery rapidly with very little use. My phone has been left alone on the counter and not used at all today and it lost 60% from 8:00am to 3:45pm (starting with a full all night charge). My wife's phone, same story... Before iOS 6.1 we were getting full day use of our phones with plenty of battery to spare (In a normal work day I typically consumed about 40% by the end of the day. Yesterday I had to survive on my charger with minimal use)

Same issue here. I would have a phone on standby for nearly 2 days (with some iMessaging and some email). Now, it won't even stay charged overnight. I use this as my alarm clock and the **** thing discharges and shuts off now. It's as useless as a brick now and frankly if it is not fixed, Im heading to Apple for a full refund plus the cancellation fee for ATT. This is completely unacceptable.

Same here.... IP5 battery is really useless. Such a powerful phone but battery can' t last. It happened to me once, the stupid phone when dead and the alarm did not go off, my daughter was late for school and I was late for work. Thank you Tim Cook for giving users such a wonderful useless phone. You are driving users away.

Good luck on winning me back

Has anyone with battery problems checked the CPU load when the phone should be idling (no WiFi hotspot, no GPS or other intensive background tasks)?

I'm not having problems with my iPhone 5's battery (in fact iOS 6.1 seems to be better than earlier iOS 6 versions but there are so many variables...). Anyway, for me the $0 "System & Monitoring Tools" application reports CPU as: User 4-5%, System 0.0%.

I wish it would report CPU load per application like the Activity Monitor in OS X does. Is there such an app?

I am now on my second iPhone 5 with 6.1. I now realize it was 6.1 that was the problem with the first phone. This thing gets scalding hot as did the last one and battery life is basically none. The phone is barely useable. Right now I am at 1:17 minutes for 40% of my battery. That's with me doing nothing but checking Facebook and two texts!! Gonna try to roll back to 6.0.1 today. Apple please fix this.

well, i don't know what you all guys are talking about, but 6.1 gave my 4S much better battery life than on 6.0.1, i'm talking on the terms of battery life time, it lasts one full work day (8 am to 5 pm) with 3G on and WiFi when possible, whatsapp and viber running all the time, Push notifications on, and i even play some games like Temple Run and Asphalt 7 when i'm bored !

on 6.0.1 that usage usually drained my battery by 2 pm, now i can go home with about 20% left in the battery

Quoating Sbailey4:

Follow as written. If no help look to restore via iTunes as a next step. And dont restore your backup. That could put the problem right back in. Test it and see how it works.

1: Reset all settings (settings>general>reset (NOT ERASE ALL SETTINGS)

2 a. Go through initial setup steps (lang, wifi, siri, enable location, etc) and choose setup as new phone (don't worry your apps, data, contacts, mail will still be there). Do NOT restore from iCloud or iTunes (It can copy back corrupt settings)

2 b. If you do not get the complete new setup screen with language setup and setup as new phone or restore from iTune/iCloud backup, be sure to go back to #1 and reset all settings again (it should happen the second time)

3. Turn off system location services timezone and iAd (settings -> location services -> system services)

4. Fully discharge battery (until you get the spinning wheel and it shuts off)

5. Fully recharge battery (overnight if possible)

THIS WORKED FOR MY IPOD TOUCH 4TH GENERATION. THANKS SO MUCH!! 🙂

iOS 6.1 BATTERY FIX

Previous battery would last about 4-5 hours. Fix returned battery life to normal.

This has worked for at least 4 of my iPhones.

1. Completely update ALL apps on computer.

2. Completely update ALL apps on iPhone.

3. Physically connect iPhone to computer and synch. MAKE SURE TO MAKE A BACKUP.

- force a backup by right-clicking on the iPhone and select "Backup"

4. Transfer all apps from iPhone. Right click on iPhone in iTunes and select "Transfer Purchases".

5. Open iPhoto (or your photo app) and backup all of your photos.,

6. In iTunes, click "Restore to Factory Settings". It will take a little while.

7. When restored, you want to restore from the most recent backup.

That should do it.
