    image.pngi wasn't having the severe drain that others are reporting but this really really increased the length of time the battery has:


    1.  backup to icloud.

    2.  Delete icloud from the iphone.

    3.  do a hard reset (hold the power and home button until the white apple appears)

    4.  after all pops back up -- power down

    5.  wait 5 minutes

    6.  power back up.

    7.  add icloud back to the phone (MERGE data)


    i have icloud push email enabled. i do not have any exchange mail servers enabled  YMMv

    Thanks for the help Joe Guru.


    As explained earlier, I restored my phone so it currently is 'empty' and the battery still is on 100% after almost 4 hours of standby. So that's solved for now!


    For your information, I did not have any push or auto fetch for emails so I assume that wasn't the problem. I did have multiple calendar syncs though.


    I will make a new sync with iTunes and see if the battery problem comes back. If it does, I will disable the calendar sync and see how that works.

    You have options. If you can just restore by sync with iTunes that would probably be the best option. Sometimes restoring the backup puts the problem back. If you sync you should get your apps back and hopefully contacts  (whatever you have setup to sync basically)


    However, you can also restore your backup and try it. If that works great, if the problem returns THEN restore again and do the sync option. Its you to you. some folks restore their backup and have no issue some the issue returns. Keep in mind also that it could be some app you have causing the problem. Since the device is working in its out of box condition. You may want to consider installing an app or two at a time to see.


    Bottom line, it appears your device is ok so determining what was causing the issue is the next step. Either corrupt iOS update which you resolved by restoring or some app that is misbehaving.


    If it were me, I would try and restore the iCloud backup. Nothing to loose but some time. If the issue comes back you can always wipe it out again go with the other option using sync.

    If you setup gmail as exchange then you are using Exchange ActiveSync. You can do either with a gmail account.

    No, I did not use exchange accounts at all. Only multiple Gmail (CalDAV) calendars. Does that use an Exchange server to sync somehow?

    After the update, my mophie/iPhone 4S was draining to zero before the end of of the day when before the update, I'd turn in with still 40-50%.  So, there was definitely an issue. 


    I plugged in my phone to my Mac to keep the phone going when I got the 6.1.1. download alert.  Let's see if this fixes the iPhone 4S "reliability" issues.  If not, I'll come back and try some of these tips.

    I charged my phone last night and took it off charge before I went to bed (at 10:00pm). I woke up at 5:00am to find my iPhone 5 battery had drained completely. Yes I have 6.1 and I have only had the phone a couple of months. I close all apps and no wifi or Bluetooth turned on. I charged my phone at work. Took it off of charge at 5:00pm and now at 6:13pm I have only 75%. Moderate to little use.

    My Iphone5 battery started draining rapidly after I downloaded the latest update a few days ago.  My company sent an email saying iphone users were being suspended from accessing the corporate email due to issues with the new ios and microsoft exhange. 


    I deleted the microsoft exhange email account from my iphone5 and the battery now lasts a long time like before the update.  Also, it is not getting hot like it was over the past few days.


    Try temporarily deleting microsoft email accounts until the issue gets fixed by those in control

    I'm beginning to think this is not a Exchange problem. I deleted my Exchange account. I full restored my iPhone. I deleted the iCloud account. Although it seems better now, while using Wi-fi, the problem remains while using 3G. Once the phone gets a 3G signal, it starts to heat up a lot (while using it for browsing or email) and the battery is draining 1% per 2 minutes. I did not re-add my Exchange account. I was really happy with my new iPhone 5 because I was only charging it every 2 days or so. Apple released the iPhone 4S 3G fix, but I really hope that they release a fix for the iPhone 5 as well.

    I restored the phone with the icloud back up and the battery drain problem is back so the bug is hiding somewhere in the back-up/settings...


    Re mails, contacts, calendars: Push is disabled. Fetch is set to manually.


    I will now delete all emails and calendars (though I repeat I am not using exchange accounts) to see if the problem persists.

    OK  Try to run the settings>reset>reset all settings option. This process has been know to work after you restore the backup. It does not delete your apps or data but resets the settings,networks and a few items such as that. It can be done easily and quickly. When the phone reboots select "set up as new" and run through the wizard. Your desktop will come back when its finished.  Then if no help you can restore and sync. But that process has helped in the past. Good luck

    Do you do "recurring" events?  If so, do you have hard limits on them ("meet every Tuesday for 4 weeks") or are they open ended ("meet every Tuesday from now on")?  Can you just disable Calendar sync, reboot the phone and see if that helps?   Thanks for doing all of this.  Also, what part of the world are you in and who is your wireless carrier?

    ios 6.1.1 on iPhone 4S Verizon USA,  Has done nothing to fix the horrible battery drain i am seeing phone needs to be recharged every 2 hours


    ios 6.1 on Ipad Gen 2 same horrific battery loss in fact all it is good for now is a glorified photo frame as long as i keep it plugged in all day long!  What the **** Apple how about a roll back for customers that request it!

    So seeing people posting that 6.1.1 didn't address the battery issue in their 4S is giving me the feeling it won't fix it in any of the other platforms either...


    Currently have iPhone 5 using AT&T in WA. My average battery life with normal usage for me is currently about 20 hours to empty, on 6.0.2 it was 36 hours+.


    This is unacceptable. Not that posting here matters as even if by chance Apple pays someone to read this there is never any feedback to the community. Get with the times regarding customer relationships or that $100bil is going to dissapear pretty quick.
